The Kitchen Garden Book Talk & Lunch

Wednesday 6th May 2026

We are delighted to welcome to Gravetye renowned garden historian Dr. Toby Musgrave, and writer and vegetable gardener, Aaron Bertelsen, as they introduce their new book 'The Kitchen Garden' published by Phaidon.

This beautifully illustrated volume explores more than 50 of the world’s most inspiring kitchen gardens, including Gravetye’s, ranging from potagers and historic estates to innovative rooftop farms and visionary contemporary designs. In conversation with our Head Gardener, Tom Coward, they will share insights into how climate, culture, and creativity shape productive gardens around the world.

Following the talk, guests will enjoy a three-course lunch in our Michelin-starred restaurant, where Executive Chef Martin Carabott showcases the essential relationship between his seasonal menus and our own historic walled kitchen garden, featured in the book, originally created by William Robinson at the turn of the last century.

Arrive at 10.30am for tea and coffee, before the talk begins at 11.00am. Lunch will follow at midday. Please note that this will be served at shared tables in our glass-fronted dining room.

After lunch, Head Gardener Tom Coward will guide guests through our flower garden and kitchen garden, revealing where our homegrown produce begins its journey.

£180.00 per person includes tea/coffee on arrival, the talk, 3 course lunch with drinks and a signed copy of the book.
