Gravetye Manor fruit and veg goes to local NHS workers
at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead
As the lock down continues and Gravetye Manor remains unable to open, there is no stopping nature! The kitchen garden is coming into its own and harvesting has begun in earnest of all the glorious fruit and vegetables which should have been destined for our kitchen team and dining room.
It could be said that the kitchen garden at Gravetye is the jewel in the crown of the gardens and the collaboration between the gardening and kitchen teams has been enjoyed by diners in our restaurant for many years now.
It has been our pleasure over the last month to bring cheer to the NHS heroes at our local Queen Victoria Hospital with our tulips, and now we are delighted to have moved on to fruit and vegetables.
A special delivery was sent this week of seasonal produce with each bag containing: swiss chard, radish, baby turnips, spinach, rocket and rhubarb. A small gesture from Gravetye for the herculean efforts made by the incredible NHS at this time.
Gravetye hopes to continue its efforts donating cut flowers, fruit and vegetables where safely possible during its closure. Huge thanks to Tom, Helena and the rest of the gardening team for growing this bounty and to Executive Chef George and Senior Sous Adam for harvesting and packaging for delivery.
