Film Screening: The Artist’s Garden – American Impressionism

This gorgeous new film from EXHIBITION ON SCREEN is based on the popular exhibition The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887–1920 that began at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and ended at the Florence Griswold Museum.  The film, directed by award-winning Phil Grabsky, tells a story as colourful as it is unknown: the breathtaking work of the American impressionists. In 1886, the French art dealer Durand-Ruel brought some of his huge stock of impressionist paintings to New York – and this proved to be a milestone in American art.  In response, American artists flocked to the French village of Giverny – home to master impressionist Claude Monet. Even as Europe recoiled against the work of Monets and Manets, Americans embraced it – and created their own style of impressionism – one that, interestingly, was much affected by the American love of the outdoors and gardens – a love of gardens that was highly influenced by two British gardening experts – Gertude Jeykll and Gravetye’s own William Robinson.

Arrival from 6.00pm, with the screening starting at 6.30pm and followed by supper at 8.00pm

£95.00 per person, aperitif, 3 courses and wines inclusive.

    Lounge suits.

    Hamilton Russell Wine Dinner

    Sunday 12th March

Hamilton Russell Vineyards – one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa and one of the closest to the sea – are located in the beautiful, cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. The Estate specialises in producing highly individual, terroir driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as the best in South Africa and among the best in the New World. We are delighted to welcome back Anthony Hamilton Russell and his wife Olive to Gravetye. Anthony took over the estate from his father in 1991 (eventually buying the property in 1994) and it was he that narrowed their range, committing to work only with grapes from their terroir. A strong believer in the importance of developing a clearer wine style identity for South Africa he will be showcasing their award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Ashbourne blend.

£115.00 per person, aperitif, 4 courses and wines inclusive.
